Platform Engineer (Onsite; Cheyenne, Wyoming)
We are seeking a skilled Platform Engineer to support and optimize our growing cloud environment. This role plays a key part in deploying, managing, and automating highly virtualized infrastructures across hybrid cloud platforms. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, working hands-on with VMware, Kubernetes, and automation technologies to build scalable, resilient infrastructure solutions. This role requires the candidate to be onsite in Cheyenne, Wyoming
 
Platform Engineer Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field – or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience with virtualization technologies including VMware ESXi, vSphere, or OpenStack
  • Proven experience troubleshooting at the physical and first layer of virtualization
  • Strong understanding of Kubernetes and experience troubleshooting clusters
  • 2+ years of experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, GitLab, Jenkins, or similar
  • Proficiency in scripting with Python, Bash, or PowerShell to support automation and operations

Nice-to-Have Skills:
  • Familiarity with VMware Cloud (VMC) on AWS and hybrid cloud architecture
  • Understanding of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Virtual Network Functions (VNF)
  • Experience with monitoring and logging solutions like Prometheus, FluentBit, or the ELK Stack 
Platform Engineer responsibilities:
  • Deploy, configure, and manage highly virtualized environments using VMware ESXi, vSphere, OpenStack, and Wind River
  • Assist in the design and implementation of scalable, fault-tolerant virtual infrastructure across multiple data centers
  • Support the development and maintenance of virtualization frameworks, optimizing resource allocation, performance, and capacity planning
  • Troubleshooting of physical and first layer of virtualization
  • Develop and enhance automation for provisioning, monitoring, and managing virtual infrastructure using Ansible, Terraform, and Jenkins
  • Support zero-touch provisioning (ZTP) and automated recovery processes to ensure high availability
  • Identify and implement optimizations to improve performance while reducing operational overhead
  • Work cross-functionally with cloud, networking, and software teams to ensure seamless platform integration
  • Provide guidance on best practices for virtualization and automation
  • Participate in knowledge-sharing activities, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to technical documentation
  • Monitor and troubleshoot virtual environments to proactively address performance bottlenecks and system failures
  • Assist in backup, disaster recovery, and failover strategies to enhance system resilience
  • Implement automated responses to incidents to minimize manual intervention
  • Contribute to defining and maintaining best practices for virtualization and automation processes
  • Maintain detailed documentation of infrastructure configurations and procedures
