Senior Security Engineer –Fortinet SME
Join a dedicated lab team supporting one of the world’s largest telecom providers and its U.S. government customer as they adopt next generation Fortinet security platforms. You will design, build, and certify complex Fortinet architectures in a controlled environment before they are rolled into mission-critical production networks.
This opportunity is open to candidates local to Basking Ridge, NJ, Ashburn, VA, or Richmond, TX, with the expectation of being on-site two days per week at one of these locations.
Senior Security Engineer requirements/qualification:
- Security Clearance: Active or obtainable U.S. Public Trust.
- 7+ years hands on with FortiGate, FortiManager, and FortiAnalyzer; deep expertise in routing, SD-WAN, SSL/IPSec VPN, UTM/NGFW policies, and multi-VDOM design.
- Proven experience architecting, configuring, and troubleshooting FortiGate HA clusters; skilled at diagnosing split brain and sync failure conditions.
- Practical knowledge of FortiWeb, FortiMail, FortiAuthenticator, FortiSandbox, and related solutions.
- Proficient in Python or Bash scripting
- Comfortable developing detailed test plans, executing complex upgrade/rollback scenarios, and analyzing results.
- Clear technical writing, diagramming (Visio / draw.io), and the ability to brief both engineers and executives.
Senior Security Engineer responsibility
- Create detailed test plans covering functional, performance, resiliency, and security use cases aligned to customer requirements and DISA STIG / NIST controls.
- Execute regression, upgrade, and rollback testing; simulate split brain, sync failure, and session handling scenarios in HA clusters.
- Author Method-of-Procedure (MOP) and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) documents; peer-review with Operations to ensure smooth production deployment.
- Produce design certification reports and executive briefs summarizing findings, risk, and mitigation steps.
- Partner with planning, engineering, and customer security teams to refine requirements and translate them into lab objectives.
