Cost Estimator (Mission Critical Construction)
The Select Group’s Telecommunications Vertical is seeking a Cost Estimator with mission-critical construction experience, specifically supporting data center, hyperscale infrastructure, or other high-availability environments. This role will focus on estimating for civil, power, water, and utility infrastructure supporting mission-critical facilities.
 
Cost Estimator Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of cost estimating experience within mission-critical construction environments (data centers, hyperscale infrastructure, semiconductor, life sciences, or similar high-availability facilities)
  • Experience estimating civil, power, water, or utility infrastructure for mission-critical projects
  • Proven experience with bottom-up estimating, material take-offs, and cost analysis
  • Experience working with a U.S. General Contractor or large-scale construction program 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop estimates throughout the entire project lifecycle
  • Experience reviewing general construction subcontractor estimates and bid packages
  • Strong communication skills and ability to thrive in a client-facing role
  • Technical knowledge of construction practices, including value management and value engineering
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to tailor communication for different audiences
 

Cost Estimator Responsibilities
  • Develop cost estimates for mission-critical data center infrastructure, including civil, power, water, and sewer systems.
  • Support hyperscale and high-availability facility construction projects from RFP through project delivery.
  • Support project delivery teams with post-contract cost analysis and change order reviews
  • Integrate benchmarking practices to ensure accurate cost data capture
  • Perform material take-offs and develop independent estimates at various design stages
  • Validate change order cost estimates submitted by contractors
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and best practices in cost estimating
  • Validate contractor invoices against contract terms and original estimates
  • Monitor project costs and identify potential cost overruns
  • Prepare and present cost reports to project stakeholders
  • Review and analyze contractor-submitted estimates
  • Collaborate with RPMs and contractors to develop cost-effective construction solutions
