Position Title: Civil Inspector
Work Location: Grande Ronde
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday on site (can work 4, 10 hours days or 5, 8 hour days) Overtime is anticipated.
Project Overview:
Utility company is seeking a Civil Construction Inspector to support its utility infrastructure projects, including large-scale overhead-to-underground conversions and civil utility upgrades. This role provides field inspection, quality assurance, and safety oversight, ensuring that contractors meet all requirements per contract drawings, specifications, and safety standards.
The Civil Inspector will work closely with the PGE Construction Manager (CM), General Contractors, and subcontractors to monitor and document project activities, with a strong emphasis on civil scope compliance such as trenching, backfilling, vault installation, and roadway construction support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct field inspections to verify civil construction activities meet project specifications, safety requirements, and industry standards.
- Act as a liaison between PGE CM and the General Contractor to ensure communication flows through proper channels.
- Attend kickoff meetings and align with stakeholders on scope, roles, and deliverables.
- Review and monitor contractor schedules, including the Three-Week Look Ahead, and notify CM of any deviations or risks.
- Document daily site activities, progress, and potential issues using standardized reporting tools.
- Identify non-compliant work and escalate findings to the PGE CM; track corrective actions.
- Participate in Quality Assurance reviews and verify critical hold points.
- Monitor and enforce compliance with PGE Safety Manual and the Contractor’s Site-Specific Safety Plan.
- Participate in tailboard meetings, safety walks, and inspections.
- Verify tools and equipment are used safely and appropriately.
- Maintain accurate records for contractor performance and billing verification.
- Support multi-phase projects with minimal on-site supervision
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in civil construction inspection, preferably on utility or infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated experience with:
- Trenching and backfill operations
- Vault and conduit installations
- Working in or near roadway right-of-way (ROW) conditions
- OSHA 30-hour certification
- Strong working knowledge of construction drawings, specs, and QA/QC procedures.
- Ability to identify issues in the field and support resolution efforts without assuming a directive role.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to various job sites in Oregon.
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience supporting electric utility projects (undergrounding, civil utility construction, or similar).
- Familiarity with PGE or other West Coast utility standards.
- Certifications in civil inspection or materials testing (e.g., NICET, ACI) a plus.
