One of The Select Group’s clients is looking for a Linux System Administrator to support the team with data center and systems administration responsibilities. This person will be the onsite global touch point for teams with both front and back-end responsibilities. It is an exciting, long-term contract opportunity with a great client! The role requires onsite in Santa Clara, CA 1-2/week.
MUST HAVE SKILLS:
- 5-7 years of experience as a Linux System Administrator
- Must have basic scripting (be able to read and modify)
- Shell (required)
- Bash (preferred)
- Python (preferred)
- Experience with Relational Database: MySQL.
- Experience working in a Data Center:
- Must have experience with rack and stack, cabling, hardware, etc.
- Must be able to lift 30-50 lbs.
- Experience with VMware
- Experience working with a ticketing system
- Experience with monitoring the environment (open to any tool).
- Knowledge of basic protocols such as DNS, HTTP, LDAP, SMTP, and SNMP.
NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS:
- Experience with Ansible and Terraform.
- Experience within an AWS environment.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:
- B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, etc. or comparable experience
DAY TO DAY:
Datacenter-related responsibilities:
- Install and configure new equipment for data centers – rack and stacking, cabling
- Preventative maintenance of data center equipment and devices – Routine check
- Analyze servers and storage systems to identify and initiate repair
- Monitoring systems – Ensure systems uptime
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge/document
- LifeCycle management – software installation/updates, security patches, and hardware maintenance
System administration:
- Proactively maintain and develop all Linux infrastructure technology to maintain agreed uptime service
- Ensure that Linux systems are backed up and can be restored within SLA.
- Take an active role in Linux server patch management on a rota basis.
- Fault finding, analysis, and logging of information for reporting purposes.
- Manage, coordinate, and implement software upgrades, patches, and hotfixes on servers.
- Create and modify scripts or applications to perform tasks.
- Maintain system documentation and backup procedures.
- Take an active role in Disaster Recovery testing.
- Monitor system performance, provide level 2/3 support and troubleshoot issues to resolution.
